Outdoors and Nature
Besides the ocean and sailing, two of my favorite places are the reservoir in West Hartford, CT where I grew up, and the desert and mountains outside of Las Vegas.
Here are some pictures I took horseback riding in the desert foothills of Mount Charleston, Nevada, and hiking some trails on Mount Charleston in May 2003. The desert was blooming at the time which happens only for a few weeks every year in mid-may. And even though its shorts weather, there is still snow along the trails hiking up the mountains.
One of the things I miss about Connecticut (no, definitely not it’s high taxes) is hiking in the reservoir in West Hartford. These wonderful grounds are an oasis in the middle of a hectic society. Here are some pictures I took there on a hike to the top of one of the taller hills. There’s a particularly great spot at the top of a hill with a great view of most of the Connecticut River Valley. I call it the sweet spot.
I moved to Vero Beach in July 2003. The rumor was that hurricanes either go north or south of Vero Beach. Well, or number was up the following year. In 2004 and 2005 we had three hurricanes in Vero Beach, after a 30 year hiatus without a single storm. See some of the pictures I took in each storm, Frances (September 2004 – Category 2), Jeanne (October 2004 – Category 3) and Wilma (October 2005 – Category 2)
